California Treatment Centers

California Drug TreatmentEvery year, thousands of people flock to sunny California to enjoy everything from the mountains and the beach to the wineries and Hollywood. California is the most populous state in the country, with endless things to see and do so it is no surprise that California is a dream destination for many Americans.

However, California surpasses the rest of the nation in another area of life; in 2008, nine percent of all Californians were believed to be users of illicit drugs. This was higher than the national average of eight percent. Drug and alcohol addiction treatment centers are constantly in demand for California addicts, and it is important that they are made aware of their options before deciding on a course of action.

Drug Addiction Treatment Centers for California Addicts

Any time a person is entering into drug addiction treatment, in California or elsewhere, they need to be aware of the different facilities available to them and know what to look for in a program. Any quality drug or alcohol treatment program will incorporate three key components under the care of trained professionals:California Drug Addiction

  • Detox
California drug detox is the first stage of addiction treatment at CA treatment centers. It can last a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the person and the nature of their addiction. When a person becomes addicted to a substance physically, their body learns to function in the presence of that substance. Detox treats the physical aspect of addiction by eliminating the toxin from the patient’s body and guiding them through withdrawal process. Detox can use supplemental medications to minimize withdrawal or be done naturally.
  • Counseling
This is where patients will spend the majority of their time during treatment. Counseling can last for several weeks, months or over a year in some cases. In counseling, patients meet regularly with psychotherapists and attend group therapy sessions. Unlike detox, the goal of counseling is to help patients understand their addiction psychologically and learn tools and techniques that allow them to manage it in their everyday life. If detox is not successfully completed before counseling begins, the patient will be preoccupied with their physical cravings for the substance, and unable to focus on their psychological aspect of their treatment.
  • Aftercare
Aftercare traditionally begins during the latter part of counseling, when patients will begin to discuss their options with their counselors. The purpose of aftercare is to help individuals transition from rehab to their everyday lives. Aftercare programs can include anything from a weekly community support group to a sober living facility. The level of accountability and structure aftercare provides depends on the patient and their level of success in rehab.
