Private Detox Programs

Private Drug DetoxDetox is an essential part of the addiction recovery process.   Yet a good number of people never take part in detox because of the social stigma attached to the process.   Simply put, public detox clinics are not appealing to those drug addicts who value their privacy, or perceive these institutions to be too public for their tastes.   To help insure that everyone finds a proper comfort level with the recovery plan, there are private detox programs.

What is a Private Detox Program?

A private detox program is any detox program that takes place in a rehab-like setting.  As opposed to methadone clinics that are in open public spaces, and often located in busy public areas – a private detox program is generally behind a gate (either literally or metaphorically) and away from prying eyes.     While most private detox programs are medical in nature, most commonly involving methadone treatment for heroin addiction, there are also a number of private natural detox centers that engage in proper “hand holding” as a means of getting the individual through their toughest withdrawal symptoms.

The Importance of Private Detox Programs

There are few elements of drug rehab or alcohol rehab as crucial as detox.   Overcoming physical addiction, and allowing the harmful toxins found in illicit substances to leave the system are the first crucial step towards recovery.   So important is detox that the majority of alcohol and drug rehab programs will not allow the individual to proceed into the main parts of the program until it is complete.   The risk of relapse or disrupting the program is just too great to risk it.    Also, if you haven’t completed detox, there is a strong chance that counseling “won’t take” as you will be distracted and still experiencing strong drug cravings.

Paying for Private Detox

The privacy that comes with these programs does so at a cost.   The price tag on a private drug or alcohol detox program will always be higher than that found in a more public option.    There are usually financing options available, but the family should expect to pay anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars per week for private detox.   It is also recommended that the individual checks with their insurance company to see if private detox is covered in whole or in part by your policy.

If a private detox program is what it takes to get an individual into treatment the cost is certainly justified.   Many drug addicts live their lives in private – and choose to do the same when it comes to their recovery.
